On 21 March 2017 my husband Fred was diagnosed with stage 4 small cell lung cancer. He went through 4 rounds of chemo and 2 weeks of radiotherapy before his body was too weak to fight the disease. Doctors then made the heart breaking decision to stop the treatment. Eight months after diagnosis, with our children and I at his side, he sadly passed away, aged 55.
The MacMillan nurses were a great help during the time from diagnosis to the end of his life. My friend Jenny and I wanted to give something back to them and to commemorate the life of my wonderful, funny, daft, grumpy husband.
On the second anniversary of the diagnosis (21 March 2019) we are going ahead (pun intended) and braving the shave. Both of us have had long hair for as long as we can remember, but shaving our hair off is for a great cause and also means I can replicate Fred, who was a baldy!
