This summer my friend Tamsin Cassels died of cancer. She was the same age as my mother when she died and her children roughly the same ages as me and my brother and sisters were. Memories and thoughts of loss came flooding back. Since mid September I've been on a sabbatical thinking a good deal about the future. I want to mark the end of this time and Braving the Shave seems a good way of doing this: a symbol of ends and beginnings and a worthy cause for the help it will bring to other families.
